Julia has undergraduate degrees in music theory and performance from Florida State University. During her time at FSU, she began specializing in American popular music with her thesis titled "An Introductory Study of LoFi Music," in which she worked to define and provide methods of analyzing music from the LoFi genre.
She earned a Master in Music Theory from the University of Colorado Boulder, where she taught as a graduate instructor. In the course of this degree, Julia continued her studies of American popular music through her Masters thesis, "Originality in American Popular Music," in which she examined how instances of musical replication are treated under intellectual property law.
The intersection of music, originality, and IP/copyright law is something that Julia finds herself fascinated by and drawn to. In law school at USC Gould, Julia looks forward to continuing her study of the intersection of American popular music and legal practice.
